Several new Las Vegas hotel and casinos may help the local economy and reduce the highest unemployment rate in Nevada in the last 14 years by creating thousands of jobs over the next months. Only a few days ago, Steve Wynn’s announced that his new offspring, Encore, will start hiring 5300 employees within the next weeks. Wynn says he is not only building a luxury environment for gamblers and visitors, but also a great working environment for its employees and potential employees are betting on Wynn’s words and by Monday afternoon, there company had received 11,000 applications for the new five thousand positions available at Encore.

But there are also several other projects under development that can create a big relief for the Las Vegas workforce, the Aliante Station will open in late 2008 at the north end of the valley, creating 1,200 new jobs and adding a few thousand new rooms to the Las Vegas hotel machinery. Some other Las Vegas mega projects, including MGM’s CityCenter will open in 2009 and are expected to create at list 7000 new jobs. By the end of that year, there will be 25,000 new hotel rooms.

I am writing this article as a employee in a Las Vegas Hotel. Guest are well informed when it comes to certain things and take full advantage of the kindness of the Hotels and Casinos in Las Vegas. The smallest inconvenience like a long wait in line, people ask for compensation. When it comes to Las Vegas the big thing is the request guest make. They request their rooms to be connecting on the same floor with a certain amount of beds smoking or non-smoking with a free upgrade. Even though most Las vegas hotels can accommodate these request on a slow day, it is very difficult especially when you have this request and you are checking in at 10pm.

What people don’t understand that Las Vegas isn’t your normal city. This is the number one vacation spot in the world, so when they come demanding this and they say, “Your this many stars or diamonds, so do it or compensate us”, it is ridiculous that they think the hotels on the strip are empty enough to meet every request of every single guest. Yes, we meet 80 percent and the rest is hard to please. About 70% to 90% ask for a free upgrade. This is also a huge thing to do in a place that is big on views. So you think the Front Desk Agent would be the first person they tip good. Normally we are the last person to receive a tip.

Tipping the Front Desk Agent is the best way to help you get a better view or a better hotel room, there are discounts and other things that the Front Desk have access too that can make your trip. In the hotel industry, the people tip valet for parking a car and bellman for carrying luggage the best but the person who can make your vacation and save you a few hundred in discounts gets tipped the least. A lot of people take the free upgrades and run but never tip enough to get the other benefits. In Las Vegas, people think if they tell an agent their going to spend alot of money that the front desk agents will give them a free upgrade but the truth is that has no benefit to the Front Desk so it will probably not work unless you have a casino host and they already set your room up.

The other thing with Las Vegas is the suites in the good hotels are often controlled by the casino’s and not the Front Desk and Hotel. When you ask for a upgrade to a suite at a hotel with a casino it is not going to happen for free unless there is a shortage of regular rooms which rarely happens and then you will be a lucky person because they will choose you by the reservation profile.

Yes, we have heard it all. 95% of Las Vegas hotel reservations are booked in advance, so your request are not guaranteed, just your room is. The request will be met (except the free upgrade request), but the later you check in the more likely they will not be met on that day. More than likely you will have to go on a list of priority, but so many people let the request ruin there vacation.

The wait in line is shorter than Wal-mart. Do you ask Wal-mart for compensation? Do you say you were inconvenienced at Wal-mart by a bad shopping cart and ask for free food? I know a Las Vegas hotel room is alot more expensive, but if you take anything from this article hopefully you will have a better understanding how the hotels work in Las Vegas and maybe you can get that great room and discount your looking for without asking for compensation just because you can. Maybe you will start tipping the Front Desk, because they are the ones that can help you the most and the ones who work the hardest to please you.

Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino Las Vegas Reviews:

My husband and I stayed at the Golden Nugget Hotel, Las Vegas, in June and had a great time. The service was very good and the location can’t be beat! We ate their breakfast buffet every morning (they gave us a coupon book) because it was 2 for 1 with the coupon. The food and selection were wonderful!!! We also made time to lay out by the “Tank” and did not have a problem in finding a couple of lounge chairs. Some people have commented on the construction, but we weren’t bothered by it all. We stayed in the south tower and the room was very nice, bed was comfortable, and the bathroom clean. We didn’t gamble much at the Golden Nugget so I can’t comment on the casino. Overall, the Golden Nugget Hotel can’t be beat for it’s service, location, and the value you get for your money. ” - Babs

Golden Nugget Hotel locates in downtown Las Vegas and is one of the older hotels compared to the ones on the Strip, but I think the management did a good job trying to reform Golden Nugget. If you walk around and see through the other hotels on Fremont Experience, you will notice that Golden Nugget is by far the best quality hotel in downtown area. I have stayed in Bellagio and TI, and I would choose Golden Nugget over those two hotels given the price difference. In Bellagio and TI, I felt neglected but in Golden Nugget, the hotel staff is extremely friendly that makes you feel at home. The staff even apologized to me when I lost US$40. The facilities and room are newly renovated and clean. The swimming pool is nice with a fun water slide through a giant fish tank. The coupon book for the guests is by far the best value I have seen: Lunch buffet for US$12 for two people (US$6 dollar each!!), Free US$10 slot play, Free US$10 poker play (with US$50 buy-in). Even the shops in the lobby will not rip you off. I compared the prices and gladly found that they only charge about 50 cents more than Walgreens. Yes, downtown is a bit far from the Strip, but double decked bus (the deuces) runs 24 hours a day for $5. I would not pay extra US$100 just for the location; in fact, I get better services here in Golden Nugget Hotel, Las Vegas.” - Nikko

The new remodeling was absolutely amazing! The gentlemen at the door were very welcoming and took care of our luggage as soon as we got out of the cab. The entire bellstaff at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, is phenominal. The bellmen are all very nice and the young lady behind the desk was just the sweetest thing! She helped book our dinner and show reservations, and was very knowledgable about what went on around town. Check-In was a bit slow, however I checked in during peak hours on a saturday afternoon, and they had every computer spot filled with front desk clerks.
Overall the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas was beautiful and a great place to go to get away
:)” - Jackie

We loved our stay at the Golden Nugget Hotel in Las Vegas ! We stayed this June, after reading some reviews about construction and the such we were a little neverous, but were amazed when we got to the hotel. The place is beautiful! The water slide through the Shark Take is a blast and you have to check out the live music in Rush Lounge… Many great options for food as well. We will be back time and time again, Golden Nugget is our new Vegas hotel! - Mel
